Apartment Profile

I lived at 437 Gayley for two years and would recommend it for anyone who is looking for more of a luxury apartment in Westwood. The manager has always been quite friendly and helpful. There were a couple times when maintenance issues took a little too long to get fixed in my view, but 90% of the time things got fixed within 1-2 days. The manager also does enforce the no party rule and shuts down parties past a certain time, but people still try sometimes. The apartments themselves are very spacious, lots of light, great kitchens, and really big bedrooms that have enough closet and bathroom space for a group of 6 people easily. It's also a great parking situation with three spots for three bedrooms unstacked in a garage and you can get 4 or 5 spots if you want to pay for them. On top of that with it's close location to campus, you can see why it's the most popular building in Westwood.

The apartments themselves are nice and spacious, but the rent is pretty expensive: $4100+ for a 3 bedroom. You get one parking spot per bedroom which is nice, and all units have at least one large balcony. The main problem with the building is the management. While the owners are kind and genuinely want to help, they are hardly ever around and speak very bad English. The manager, Derek Kent, is a huge tool. He doesn't care at all about the health and safety of the tenants, and tries to avoid any problem that might inconvenience him in the least. He has tried (more than once) to make us pay for repairs to damages that fell outside of our responsibility as well as problems with the building as a whole that went beyond the scope of our unit. He has ignored REPEATED requests to fix problems that have existed since the beginning of our lease and even threatened to evict us because we refused to pay for damages caused by poor plumbing. If you dont mind noise, everything about this apartment is awesome (except the landlord). There are nice, big places with huge rooms and it comes with a ton of parking. It's incredibly easy to throw parties and they almost NEVER get broken up. The only problem is that the landlord is a huge douchebag. It takes him forever to do any little amount of work, like fix a leaky sink, and he'll nickle and dime you to death.
